The core of this problem is simple. How to make a cuboid with a 21mm wide 8mm thick cross section visually slim? Although there are many existing slim design solutions in the smartphone field that we can reference, a deeper and wider exploration on this topic is still needed.
We created numerous cross section designs within the size of 21mm by 8mm and extruded them into solid. There are two variables that we need to testify. The first is the shape of the side surface. The second is the shape of where the top and side surface attach. These two variables create different light and shadow relationships on the object, which leads to a different sense of thickness.
